Driving Public Conversations: WBUR’s CitySpace at the Lavine Broadcast Center

For our March meeting, the HRC welcomes architectDanielle McDonough AIA to discuss WBUR CitySpace, a new cultural events venue that just celebrated its grand opening at the end of February. CitySpace brings WBUR broadcasting from an obscure location on the third floor of 890 Commonwealth Avenue to the forefront of pedestrian life on the Boston University Campus; the dynamic new facility completes the trifecta that WBUR aimed to create: content 1) on-air, 2) online and now, 3) live, in person. The 8,000-sf performance space offers an unparalleled venue for generating and fostering public conversation, artistic performance and cultural expression. CitySpace celebrates cutting-edge conversations, adventurous art and innovative ideas.

Danielle McDonough AIA, LEED BD+C, is an Associate at CambridgeSeven, focusing on adaptive reuse projects in the public realm. She led the project teams for WBUR CitySpace and Boston’s Museum of Science, and she is currently the project architect for the Foundry Building, which will transform an 1880s East Cambridge Iron Foundry into a contemporary cultural center for the surrounding neighborhoods. Ms. McDonough is a member of the AIA Strategic Council and also serves as an adjunct professor at the Boston Architectural College.
