Join us for the opening of Peter T. Bennett: The Lure of Aluminum in the Trustees Gallery of the Society of Arts + Crafts. In The Lure of Aluminum, Maine-based artist Peter T. Bennett brings a survey of his work from the past twelve years, including pieces from the new “Strangeman-Everyman” series created in response to the 2016 Presidential election as well as earlier abstract works, to SA+C. All pieces in this solo exhibition are created primarily from aluminum, Bennett’s material of choice. He has worked with the medium for much of his his career, inspired, he says, by its ubiquity, its versatility, and the change in thinking that its proliferation fostered between the late 19th century and the modernist period.
Bennett studied at Silvermine College of Art in New Canaan, Conn., at Syracuse University, and at Carnegie Institute of Technology in Pittsburgh. In recent years he’s shown works at juried exhibitions throughout Maine and Massachusetts, and held a 2014 residency at Haystack Mountain School of Crafts in Deer Isle, Maine.
